Pie Pumpkins

Taking the scenic route home from Albany, NY late this afternoon we sped past a farm trailer with small pumpkins at the edge of a field.  "Did that sign say a quarter a pumpkin?" I incredulously asked Sean, thinking my eyes must be deceiving me. He nodded.
We turned around and picked out forty of them.  Any guesses what is on my to-do list tomorrow?
Pie pumpkins for a quarter each!

Oh my- that's a lot- wow! I can't wait to hear and compare notes- we have an overabundance as well. I was thinking of cooking and freezing the puree to use in recipes- can't wait to get some ideas :-)

Just finished canning mine...wish they were only a quarter a pop. I pay 2 dollars a pound! But's that's ok, they are still great!

Just came across your blog via Raising Homemakers...excited to follow! I love the pumpkin post. I've never baked and made my own puree...but, feeling more encouraged to try after seeing how easy and affordable it can be!

You aren't the only one knee deep in pumpkin! I have my husband get 50 almost 2 weeks ago when the local farm market offered them to him for a better price...still I paid .50 a piece for mine (they were really big ones). I still have about 25 to go.
