Size 6 Skirt to Maternity Skirt Tutorial

One of my sisters gave me this cute skirt from Target. Cute but not gonna fit my belly much longer! Yay! We're expecting another kiddo in October! God is gracious to us.
Back to the skirt:

So I chopped off the top right below the pleats and zipper.

She also gave me this tank top, whose shortness made it useless as a tank top to me so.....
I had this thought:

And cut just below the straps and tag portion of the tank. It is a great stretchy knit from GAP and will work perfectly!

Then I insided out the tank and fit it over the right side of the skirt, lining up the side seams.

And sewed a small zig-zag around it. Normally, I could have done this on my serger in half the time but that would have meant re-threading a spool that just ran out and I didn't have the mental capacity for it that morning. This Mama is exhausted!

So I zig-zagged the edges when I was done.

This is what it looks like now. Would make a cute tube dress if I were a tube dress sort of girl. But I'm not.

So I'll wear it folded above or below the belly, whichever whim I feel like following that day.

This is the second pregnancy announcement I've read today!! This is such wonderful and exciting news- congratulations to you and your whole family.

I did the exact same thing with some tiny tank tops I had from when I was in high school and I added them just like this to the top of some three tier skirts that I made and I just love them!!

Hope you're feeling well!!

HI Hannah,
It is me again. I love this idea. I have four children and don't know if there will be anymore on the way, but I will definitly keep this idea in mind. By the way I love upper state NY I have fond memories of visiting some of my great aunts and uncles there when I was a child. Also, of sliding down waterfalls.
Thanks,
April

Congratulations, Hannah! I am so thrilled for your family! Every time I hear a new life is being given to a family whose eyes are on the Lord I get excited. We can populate heaven with a lot of souls that way!

Hang in there. You have a lot on your plate. Don't forget to find ways to refresh yourself and to rest, even in this season.

Wonderful news!! What a sweet blessing for the cold months of winter... a cuddly baby to snuggle up with.

Will you be able to continue fostering? What limits does NY have on children in the home? Here in NC we can't have more than 5 in the home (all kids included), which is a bummer because we can't foster when we have another baby or adopt again.

We're still waiting for a new placement. There has been a huge lull in our county. Lots of empty foster homes, which is good. Waiting on God to bring child #5 into our lives :-)

Hope you are feeling well!

Congratulations! You are such a wonderful mother! I thought of you today because I am working on a sewing workshop for our 4-H club. Have you ever heard of "Little Dresses for Africa"? Just google the website for more information if you are interested in an easy project.

My daughter has a few 'yoga top' skirts and capri's - very comfy! I actually hope to make myself one for days when I need a comfy skirt! Your skirt will be perfect for a growing baby belly! Congratulations and may the Lord continue to bless you abundantly!

What a great idea! Will have to remember that. It's so hard to find maternity clothes that fit.

I just saw your tutorial on the sidebar...perfect timing for me!!! (I remember reading it back when you first posted it). I'm having some maternity clothes issues...as in my bottom half is growing faster than it ever has...maybe the 5th baby does that to a girl?! Anyhow, I have a few skirts and t-shirts that I could transform like your skirt! Thanks!!!

When I first saw this post (was it two years ago?) I wished I had seen it a few years earlier, as I was pretty sure our baby days were behind us. Well, here I am! Getting bigger and needing to rework some of my skirts to accomodate a summer time baby bump! Glad I could find this again!
