Week in feminine and frugal dress - Day Three

Today's outfit cost $15.

Here's the break down:
Jones New York jersey long skirt in brown - approx $10 at a Label Shopper. Seriously, I debated for a long while whether to pay this amount but decided to since I had scoured thrift stores for months looking for just this style and fabric and color with no luck.

Turquoise/white blouse - $2 at a consignment shop

Dangly Target earings new in package at thrift shop -$2

3 of the bracelets were gifts, the other I paid a dollar for at the consignment shop.

Today we had friends over to see how we homeschool, did laundry, cooked, swept, cuddled and read, played on the floor... which brings me to the question I get as to if I only wear long skirts. The answer is no but I do find them to be extremely practical in my job and life. They are washable like jeans, more comfortable, prettier, feminine and the length keeps me modest while I'm on the floor playing or scrubbing a tub. Have you seen too much when women wearing jeans bend over with their kids. Yup, me too. So I like skirts.

i'm really enjoying this series. as i get older, i want prettier clothes. i've always been a t-shirt and jeans kinda gal, but here lately, it's skirts. i agree- long skirts are so practical.

yes I too have seen this problem with many women showing too much while doing daily tasks with kids etc. I too love long skirts, but I do wear shorter at the knee or below the knee skirts and dresses as well! Long skirts are just easier though to do everything you need to get done while being modest easily.

The past few years I've been a 99.5% of the time a skirt kind of girl. Once my first daughter got to the mobile stage I quickly realized my usual right below the knee skirts were not going to cut it. So for the past 3 years it's been mostly long skirts. With the 3rd on the way and Lord willing many more to come I've taken up long skirts as my style. My only challenge is keeping warm in the winter without static. I'm currently 29 weeks pregnant and having a hard time keeping the bottom half warm since I don't like anything tight around my growing belly (such as tights, etc).

Anyway. You look so nice in your outifits and I can't wait to see the rest.

Hannah, I am totally with you on skirts. I love a pretty, twirly skirt, and they are so handy. I'll be posting more about why I love skirts when I do my week.

Hugs,
Lynn

I get asked that question about "only wearing skirts" a lot as well. It really makes me think about my choices, I am careful how I answer because I have and still do occasionally wear jeans, but I do feel more feminine in skirts and yes they need to be practical, but I have seen WAY too much in the current jeans styles :o) Thank you Hannah for your thoughtful posts and sharing your great ideas!

Hello! :)

I have a question for you as well as anyone else that wears skirts in the winter. I prefer to wear skirts but in cold weather, I never know what to wear for shoes and to completely cover my legs, so I just resort to wearing pants. Also, around the house I don't wear shoes and figure that hose will just rip up without shoes. So what do you all do- are there socks that go almost all the way up your legs? I hate that tight feeling from the waistband of hose, etc. I can only put up with it Sunday mornings and then have to go through a recovery from it Sunday afternoon! :)

Thanks!

Mandi, thanks. I remember having a lightbulb momemnt where I realized I could dress nicely for the same cost/effort as wearing my jeans or track pants every day. And seriosuly, life takes on a whole new outlook when you're dressed nicely for the day.
SinginginHisName, you're right. I agree.
Thanks, Heather. :)
Di, you're so right. :) I'd like to spare the world my Mamacrack.
Emily, we live where it is cold, cold and so I've found knee socks under long skirts are great. I hate pantyhose. If I'm wearing a knee length skirt and am at home, I'll just leave my legs bare and wear slippers around the house. if we go out, I'll throw on a pair of tights. That's what works for me.
Lynn, I look forward to your posts!
Christi, I still wear jeans or pants occasionally. Last night Sean and I went on a date and I wore a cute pair of pants and a sweater. And when the temps here dip to single digit, I'm in my pants, layers with sweaters and wool socks!
Jenn, I wear knee socks a lot but they do make over-the-knee socks too. AS for shoes, I will never, ever, ever wear sneakers with a skirt or dress because to me, nothing looks worse. I wear mary janes or tall boots with a low heal (extra warmth there!) or slip on shoes or clogs. I think I've worn pantyhose once in 2009 and I don't mind tights at all.
