How little can I spend?

Here's the challenge.
How little can you spend, without causing your family to suffer for it, on groceries this month? Think fresh and bargains and healthy.
If you're up for it, leave a link in the comments so we can follow your progress on your blog and check back here. I'll be posting everything I spend that goes onto our plates and into our bellies for our family of seven.
Need more motivation? I just ordered this book through my library.

This is a GREAT idea! Unfortunately for us, bad timing as we are trying to stock up for a REALLY bad winter coming (living in CO the natives are restless and saying bad winter coming). If nothing comes of it, maybe after the winter, we will just feast off our stockpile for a few months! :D So THEN I can spend little to no money. :D GOOD LUCK! I look forward to your progress!

I am challenging myself to $20 for the month. a) it is just me and hubby and b) i am well stocked. That should be enough for fresh milk, and to replenish the veggies every week!

I think that is a great idea! I am going to try to keep track too. I have 3 freezers full to the brim of meat, fruits and vegetables from the garden, 180+ jars of canned food, and I still spend too much at the store. I take the challenge!

What a great idea! Trying to think ahead if I need to spend extra this month on stocking up on anything. I think next month will be a stock up month for the winter so I may try this.

I'm going to try it too. This is very timely for us since my husband has been laid off since July. He was offered a job today (yay!) but we are going to have to rework the budget for our new income. So I'm in also!

Hi-- great inspiring post!! Here is a recipe to cut down pure maple syrup costs-- just found it the other day and it's yummy! It's called Maple Apple Syrup and you can find the recipe here: http://jujus-place.blogspot.com/2009/09/yummy-maple-syrup-substitute.html

This has been my challenge since my son started college. It seemed an unpossible task to take on. The Lord has shown me how I could learn to do with less. The best part is I don't feel I am doing with less. I have just changed the way I live. I began a Frugal Tuesday which I talk about some ways I have tried. I pray this will help one more person somewhere in Gods kingdom.
As others have said we are stocking up for the winter so there some extra expenses. Such as putting up canned goods. I will do your challenge on my blog.
