While we have never defined ourselves or our family by the term "quiverful" and are not seeking to catch up to the Duggar's, we do believe children are a blessing and welcome the ones God brings into our lives.
For another viewpoint of quiverful, check out this video (or audio) done by Mark Driscoll on the topic of birth control. (Best if little ears aren't present.) I love that he is encouraging married church members to have large families and teaching them how to raise them well. Seems like a great balance. By the way, check out some of his other vidoes or podcasts. Sean and I love his boldness in delivering the truth and balance from scripture. You know he must be doing something right if feminists and right wingers are both angry at him.
Next week I promise more soothing photos of springtime in the countryside and cute kids and to step away from my soapbox for a while. Must be something in the air...

Mark Driscoll is one of my all time favorite preachers. We have pretty much the same outlook as you. Not quiverful, but only using natural methods of prevention. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. When they do we're happy, when they don't we're happy, LOL! I don't really have a desire to have a HUGE family and I do really like a 2 year span in between them but I do sometimes wonder if my baby thirst will ever be quenched =)
so heart rending to imagine closing the chapter of pregnancy and babyhood!
One way we can fight this undercurrent is to do what you are doing- homeschool, teach your child to contribute to the well being of the family, create community, and inspire others by how you live.
When a society devalues human life whether it be the unborn or the elderly, or those who are challenged - we are in big trouble.
Hannah,
Your blog is the first one I look at each day and I want you to know how much I love it and feel like I know and love you as well. However, today when I was listening to the clip from Mars Hill, I must say that it was a little offensive to me. No I don't wear big collar dresses nor do I believe birth control is sinful, but I do think he is a little harsh for the sake of a few laughs. I have 4 children whom I believe are a blessing from God and have homeschooled them almost all their lives. I just think that his analogy of the homeschool petri dish was a bit overstated.
I love Vision Forum and similar ministries but I don't believe he showed an accurate view of them. I know he was trying to make people understand that legalistic views are wrong, I get that and believe it to be true as well.
I just didn't know if you fully listened to this video clip. I felt like the two "thought provoking" links that you have listed somewhat contradicted each other.
Hannah, I love your ideas and want you to know I think you are great!
Thanks for listening,
Lu
Yes, Prairie Chick, I wonder what it will feel like to someday have the feeling that our nest is full and it's time for the next stage of life. Hasn't happened yet...
Lu, you are right, Mark Driscoll has no problem with being offensive or thought provoking. He lives in a very trendy, hip arena and city and I'm sure he'd feel pretty uncomfortable tilling the ground, planting fruit trees or spreading manure (all things my husband has done today).
I've heard him throw homeschoolers under the bus too and I mostly agree with his statement but I still respect him because I've listened to just about everything he's preached that's available.
So he's had a bad experience with the homeschoolers he's met... he hasn't met us so I don't take it personally.:)
The point I like that he makes is that you can't say quiverful is the only path to take and he gives scripture and backup to that and he isn't afraid to tell people that the pill isn't a great form of b/c. That's tabu for a lot of ministers.
I appreciate Vision Forum for a lot of things too, especially the value they place on family, home and children.
Those three things both Driscoll and Vision Forum have in common. Yah, I too wish Drsicoll had pointed out a few of the good characteristics of Vision Forum but it was his sermon, not mine.
Blessings,
Hannah
Hannah,
There are so many better things to listen to than Mark Driscoll. If you want to hear very good Bible believing sermons listen to sermonaudio.com and listen to sacredaudio.com for music. You have such a desire to do what is right and scriptural, go the extra mile and dig deeper into scripture. How about posting on some of the great missionary biographies like Amy Carmichael, Hudson Taylor, John Paton, Mary Slessor etc.
I love your blog and all the wonderful pictures you post. What a dear sweet family you have.
