Little pregnancy update

Yesterday we loaded up the van with children and diapers and wipes and snacks and took the kids to Syracuse with us for my second appointment with my midwife. After a ride on the carousel and dinner we headed over to the hospital where the midwife has her office. Though she is based in a hospital and teaches there, she is a home birth midwife.

Yes, I am having a home birth. I am so excited!

The kids were warmly welcomed by the midwife into the exam room where we all held our breath and listened quietly for the quiet "boom-boom, boom-boom, boom-boom" of the heart beat of our baby. And there it was, coming from a baby not yet half a foot long. It is the most beautiful sound. The kids eyes were wide with wonder and Sean gave me a happy smile that I'm sure matched my own.

I gained three free weeks! I had been telling everyone that I am nine weeks pregnant and the midwife said, "oh, you are twelve weeks along!" Goodbye nausea, hello beautiful skin! The twelve week mark is usually the turning point where my hormones settle themselves, thank goodness!

Have any of you had a home birth? It isn't a very popular thing in this area yet and I've gotten a lot of interesting feedback. If anyone is considering it, or would like more information, I recommend the book "Ina Mays Guide to Childbirth". I just finished reading it and I wish the ob/gyns I used in the past read it as well.

Have a beautiful day!

So glad you are having a homebirth! Our only birth thus far was a homebirth and it could not have been better. We got a lot of negative responses from family members when they found out. It all came down to trusting in the sovereignty of God rather than that of man. His Will will be done no matter where that baby is born.

Congratulations!

So neat, hearing your baby's heart beat! And to be 12 weeks along, yahoo!

I am unable to homebirths. But I find it so interesting to talk and learn about those who do! So, make sure you write about it as you go through this journey!

I must tell you how excited I am for you! We were planning a homebirth with Peapod, but the impatient little stinker just could not wait to be born, and foiled those plans. Prayers will be being said for your pregnancy and birth, and I will be looking forward to your updates. :o)

I noticed you have "Organic Housekeeping" in your book section. Isn't that such a lovely book? The advice and tips offer to seem to be far more sensible and practical than many other homemaking books. :o)

Thanks, everyone, for your well wishes with the home birth journey. I'll remind you of this, Kate, someday when you're having a baby!
