Authentic Christian Woman Part 2

My prayer is that these posts on authenticity will encourage you, strengthen your walk with the Lord, and challenge you as I have been challenged these last few years. When our spirits and our hearts are challenged and we accept the challenge God brings then we grow as women, and we grow in our walk with the Lord.
#1 Our identity as authentic Christian women must first be based on Christ. This is the most important ingredient in living an authentic Christian life.

An authentic Christian woman must first have accepted Christ as her Saviour. She realizes that it is by grace and faith, not by the work of her hands that her salvation is guaranteed. Her identity lies in the fact that she is a daughter of a King. Her adoption, the fact that she is chosen and wanted by God, is not based on her looks, performance or talent.

Ephesians 2:8
"God saved you by his special favor when you believed. And you can't take credit for this; it is a gift from God. "
NLT

How easy it is, to fall prey to trends, whims, and emotion when finding our identity. Consider what is trendy for women regarding vocation and family. How many women chose a life based on their what their peers chose or what society encourages? How many times have we heard, "This is what I feel like I should do" with the "feeling" spoken of not based on any sort of Biblical principle. Do we chose where we stand in life or what we do with our lives based on our feelings?

Colossians 3 read in The Message brings to light these things:

"So if you're serious about living this new resurrection life with Christ, act like it. Pursue the things over which Christ presides. 2 Don't shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ - that's where the action is. See things from his perspective. 3 Your old life is dead. Your new life, which is your real life - even though invisible to spectators - is with Christ in God. He is your life. 4 When Christ (your real life, remember) shows up again on this earth, you'll show up, too - the real you, the glorious you. Meanwhile, be content with obscurity, like Christ.
5 And that means killing off everything connected with that way of death: sexual promiscuity, impurity, lust, doing whatever you feel like whenever you feel like it, and grabbing whatever attracts your fancy. That's a life shaped by things and feelings instead of by God. 6 It's because of this kind of thing that God is about to explode in anger. 7 It wasn't long ago that you were doing all that stuff and not knowing any better.
8 But you know better now, so make sure it's all gone for good: bad temper, irritability, meanness, profanity, dirty talk. 9 Don't lie to one another. You're done with that old life. It's like a filthy set of ill-fitting clothes you've stripped off and put in the fire. 10 Now you're dressed in a new wardrobe. Every item of your new way of life is custom-made by the Creator, with his label on it. All the old fashions are now obsolete. " (I encourage you to head on over to http://www.crosswalk.com/ and read the rest of the chapter.)

An authentic woman recognizes that her worth is not based on how she feels that morning, what others say about her or what value society places on her position.

Prayer: "Lord, what do I do to try to be good enough for your love? Show me how hard I am trying to earn something that is not for sale. Lord, help me to cast it all aside and come to you in all my unworthiness and lowly human nature. Thank you for gifting me with your grace without recompense. Thank you that my identity is firm in You, unshakable by the world around me. Encourage my heart as I walk into this new identity in You, choosing daily to trust, have faith, and remember my worth in your eyes. In Jesus' name, Amen."

Romans 5:8
"But God put his love on the line for us by offering his Son in sacrificial death while we were of no use whatever to him."
